Following in the footsteps of Lincoln and Ely Cathedral last year, several cathedrals are hoping to light up red this year
We are excited to hear about the ambitious and inspiring plans that Dioceses and Cathedrals up and down the country are putting in place to mark Anti-Slavery Day. Following in the footsteps of Lincoln and Ely Cathedral last year, many are hoping to illuminate their buildings red on the eve of Anti-Slavery Day or Anti-Slavery Day itself. This powerful sight should communicate to passers-by that slavery must stop.
So far we have heard that Lincoln, Rochester, Canterbury and Portsmouth Cathedral as well as St Stephen’s Church in Bath are intending to light up on October 17th or 18th.
We know that many churches and Cathedrals are organising Anti-Slavery Day services, school events and general awareness raising seminars. Whatever you are doing, please let us know so we can share your story and inspire others. Email us clewerinitiative@churchofengland.org and we will post them on our social media channels.
